District Approach for Early School Leaving

 This Tallaght-wide network works to develop better local services for young people who have left school without qualifications, or are at risk of doing so. The project has a Strategy Group and a Practitioners Network, bringing together people from schools, alternative education providers, Youth Services, FAS, County Dublin VEC, National Educational Welfare Board, Probation Services and others.

The meetings prove invaluable for sharing information that might otherwise stay within organisations, for developing a better understanding of the available services and for developing initiatives to deal with gaps in the provisions for early school leavers.

The District Approach has developed innovative training programmes with a focus on wood work and sports for young people and is working to streamline referral protocols between services.
